Historical Context

In the summer of 1964, Andy Warhol spotted a photograph of hibiscus flowers in the pages of Modern Photography magazine — taken by photographer Patricia Caulfield. He appropriated the image, transforming it through his signature silkscreen process into one of the most iconic series of his career. The Flowers were first exhibited at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York in November 1964, where all 22 paintings sold out on opening night. The series marked a pivotal moment in Warhol's evolution: a shift from the hard-edged imagery of consumer goods and celebrity toward a more lyrical, almost decorative subject — yet one still filtered through the cool, mechanical lens of mass reproduction.

The Flowers series has been interpreted as everything from a meditation on mortality and the transience of beauty to a celebration of pure color and pattern. Warhol produced the motif in ten vivid colorways, each one a different emotional register — from acid yellow to deep violet — printed against a flat, photographic lawn. Original Flowers screenprints from the 1964–65 series (F&S II.64–73) regularly achieve $20,000–$60,000 and above at major auction houses. This CMOA limited edition lithograph — authenticated, numbered, and signed in stone — offers collectors a rare and lasting connection to one of Warhol's most beloved bodies of work at an incomparably accessible price point.

This unique original print on archival paper is from a limited edition and not like the often offered unlimited prints from Andy Warhol with the note ,,published by Sunday B. Morning' and ,,fill in your own signature'. You get here an incomparable signed in print lithograph with a lasting and steady rising value.
